WAAM robots and capabilities

DEEP Manufacturing’s WAAM capabilities

Using one of the world’s largest concentrations of Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) systems, DEEP Manufacturing offers robotic configurations tailored to specific geometries, scales, and production requirements. Each system is optimised for efficient production of large-scale metal parts that can be difficult or costly to manufacture using traditional methods.

Large-scale metal components

Our single-arm systems can manufacture parts up to 3 metres in diameter, while multi-robot WAAM systems extend to 6.2 metres. This supports the production of large-scale metal components where size, mass and structural performance are critical.

Cylindrical structures

Cylindrical structures

WAAM and single-axis manipulation enable efficient production of cylindrical and pressure-retaining geometries. DEEP Manufacturing holds DNV Approval of Manufacture (AoM) for additively manufactured pressure vessels for human occupancy (PVHOs), a world-first achievement.

Complex geometries and overhangs

Complex geometries and overhangs

Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) enables complex geometries without extensive tooling, reducing lead times and increasing design flexibility. A two-axis manipulator supports advanced features including overhangs, curved surfaces, and hemispherical structures.

Low-volume, high-value production

Low-volume, high-value production

Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) supports low-volume production by reducing lead times and material usage compared to traditional casting and forging. Near-net-shape manufacturing minimises waste, reduces machining and enables greater design flexibility.

Rapid development

Rapid development

Engineer-to-engineer support from design through to production, inspection, and testing. Print times can be as low as 22 days for a cylindrical component measuring 1.7m (5ft 8in) high and 1.5m (4ft 11in) in diameter.

WAAM systems, fabrication capabilities and processes

DEEP Manufacturing operates a range of robotic WAAM systems alongside complementary fabrication and machining capabilities, enabling the production of large-scale metal components within a single facility.

These systems include single-arm, manipulator, and multi-robot configurations, each designed to support specific geometries, build volumes and production requirements.

Combined with in-house fabrication, machining, and finishing, this integrated setup supports a complete manufacturing workflow from initial deposition through to final component delivery.

Materials and material development

Materials and material development

DEEP Manufacturing processes aluminium alloys, carbon steels, stainless steels, copper alloys and nickel-based materials for several applications including for structural, pressure-retaining and corrosion-resistant parts. We also offer material development from our Bristol Centre of Excellence.

Production process

Production process

Production follows structured workflow from design and process planning to WAAM deposition, machining, inspection and testing, supporting process control, repeatability, and quality.

Industries we support

DEEP Manufacturing supports a range of industries requiring large-scale, high-integrity metal components delivered at speed. Our WAAM capability is applied across sectors where certification, performance, and supply chain reliability are critical.
